Roller Skating--April 13 ***DATE CHANGE***

Let's go skating!  Meet us at Wheels Skating Rink!  Doors open at 12:30 PM and we have the rink to ourselves until 3:30 PM.  Admission is $3.00 per skater and that does include skate rental.  They play a selection of Christian music for us to enjoy as we skate.  No outside food is permitted, but they do have a great snack bar so bring your loose change . . .  This is our favorite group outing so come on out and let's have a great time together. The address of the rink is 120 Bridget Lane in Jacksonville.

Annual Easter Egg Hunt--April 10

Mark your calendars! It's time for our annual Easter egg hunt.  The hunt will begin at 4:00 PM.  We ask that each family provide a dozen plastic eggs with treat(s) inside for each participating child.  Also, please bring a finger food and a drink to share.  This event will be at Carol's home.  This is a great time of fellowship and the kids always have fun.

Bowling (Air Station)--April 17

Bowling anyone?  Join us for bowling at the Air Station on Friday, April 17, from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM.  Admission is $5.00 per bowler and that price includes two hours of bowling plus the shoe rental.  The plan is to go bowling on the Air Station on the 3rd Friday of every month throughout the school year.

CAT Testing--April 27 & 28

Time to start planning for testing again.  Previous years of testing have been so successful and I appreciate everyone's cooperation!  The money deadline for test orders is April 1.  Tests must be ordered through Agape Leadership Development in order to participate and each test is $25 (this price includes shipping/postage of the test/results and all supplies).  To place your test order, send check or money order payable to Carol Oakley, PO Box 126, Richlands, NC  28574.  Please include the child's name (as you want it spelled on the test), the grade the child is ENTERING in the fall, and contact information in case I have any questions about processing your tests.

Testing will take place on April 27 & 28 and is open to ALL homeschoolers.  We will begin at 9:00 AM and will be testing at Brookwood Baptist Church.  We should be done each day before or shortly after 1:00 PM.  We will be proctoring each others' children so no one will be proctoring their own child.  Pencils and scratch paper will be provided.  A nursery will be available for younger siblings during testing.

The standardized test that we use is the California Achievement Test Complete Battery--NOT the CAT 5.  The children will be tested on Reading (Vocabulary and Comprehension), Mathematics (Computation, Concepts, and Problems), and Language (Capitalization, Punctuation, Spelling, Usage and Structure).  All tests are timed, but the timing is different for the separate grade levels.  The grade levels are divided as follows by the grade the student is ENTERING:  Level 1--Grade 2; Level 2--Grade 3; Level 3--Grades 4, 5, & 6; Level 4--Grades 7, 8, & 9; and Level 5--Grades 10, 11, & 12.  Unfortunately we cannot accommodate special circumstances during the testing days, but we can order the test for you to proctor at home if your child needs special considerations.

Roller Skating--May 4

Homeschool Fair & Book Swap--May 9

The North Carolina Division of Non-Public Education reports that Onslow County has an estimated homeschool enrollment of 852 students for the 2007-2008 school year.  In response to growing demand, Onslow County Public Library will host its first annual Free Homeschool Information Fair on Saturday, May 9 from 10:00 am - 2:00 pm at the Main Library in Jacksonville.  The goal is to connect homeschool families with the valuable resources local organizations have to offer.  If you are interested in setting up a free booth at this event, please contact the Youth Services Department at (910) 455-7350.  The library is excited about this opportunity to gather homeschool groups, area businesses, and community resources together to offer the widest variety of homeschool resources available in the Onslow County area.

Bowling (Air Station)--May 15

Bowling anyone?  Join us for bowling at the Air Station on Friday, May 15, from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM.  Admission is $5.00 per bowler and that price includes two hours of bowling plus the shoe rental.  The plan is to go bowling on the Air Station on the 3rd Friday of every month throughout the school year.

Homeschool Graduation/Promotion Banquet--May 16

Mark your calendars.  Planning is underway.  We will continue our tradition and host the Third Annual Agape Leadership Development Homeschool Graduation/Promotion Banquet. This event is open to all homeschoolers.  While the focus is on the graduating seniors and the moms, all homeschooled children in attendance are recognized for their achievements/advancement for the 2008-2009 school year.  Parents are asked to write 40 words of praise for each of their children which will be read as the child receives their Achievement Certificate.  Those of you that have been in previous years, you know that you won't want to miss it!  For those first-timers out there . . . you won't want to miss it.  This is a banquet which means a meal is involved and we do this for two reasons:  1) Family members/loved ones can join in and celebrate your homeschooling achievements in a group setting and 2) Moms can relax and watch the fruits of a year's worth of hard labor while being fed a glorious meal without having to prepare it or clean it up.  There is a charge for this event which includes the rental of the building and the catered meal.  More details will follow as plans are solidified.

Jordan N. is a graduating senior this year and has already been accepted to a college in High Point where she will be attending in the fall.  We're so proud of you, Jordan!

Homeschool Lunch Bunch--June 23

Homeschool Book Sale--June 27

This is normally held in Richlands, but due to an overwhelming response will be held at a larger facility in Beulaville on June 27.  There will be speakers at this event in addition to a food and drink stand (proceeds from the money raised will go to the speaker fund).  To also help raise money for the speakers, they will charge a nominal fee (this hasn't been decided yet) such as an admission fee for shoppers and/or table rental for sellers, but they want to keep it low so it will not exclude anyone from coming.  If you are interested in selling at this event, please contact Carol with an idea of how many conference sized tables you will need. I will have more information as the time gets closer.
