We were contacted by a representative of Habitat for Humanity expressing a need for volunteers to help in their thrift store called The Reach Store. They are looking for adults and/or mature teens (15 or older). This would count towards community service hours if a teen was looking for ways to accumulate those. All proceeds made from items sold in their store go to fund their building projects and any help they can get is greatly appreciated. Their store is located at 1200 Gum Branch Road if you'd like to stop by and support their organization or if you'd like to pick up one of their volunteer forms. If you have any questions about volunteering, please call Samantha at (910) 347-9400. |

OfficeMax offers a frequent buyer program called 'Max Perks'. For teachers and homeschoolers, the program is called 'Max Perks for Teachers'. Based on how much you purchase (make sure you present your MaxPerks card at the time of purchase), you will get a bonus reward card to use toward a future purchase. It works very much like a gift card and they send it to you in the mail. They also will add to your reward card $3.00/cartridge for every ink cartridge you recycle with the daily maximum of 5 per day ($15.00). The two programs work very well together for some help in the purchase of supplies for your school. |

Strong values. Strong leaders. Character Counts. Venturing is a program that provides positive experiences to help young people mature and to prepare them to become responsible and caring adults. Venturing is a youth development program of the Boy Scouts of America for young men and women who are 14 (and have completed the eighth grade) through 20 years of age. The objectives of Venture Crew 233 are: 1) Provide high adventure activities for its active members. This is not only a way to provide members with a great outdoor experience, but to also build character, develop good citizenship, and foster personal fitness. Examples of high adventure activities include backpacking, canoeing, kayaking, climbing, shooting, and white water rafting. The crew provides at least one activity per month. 2) Communitry service is another objective of Crew 233. Helping others and providing assistance to non-profit organizations fosters the ideals of Venturers and Scouts everywhere. 3) Learn/master outdoor skills by Venturers teaching each other. Crew meetings are Mondays at 7:00 PM at Pine Valley United Methodist Church. (910 Pine Valley Road). For more information, call 910-219-1120 or contact Stan at acepop@ec.rr.com. |
